How to Transfer Your Domain Without Downtime
Moving your domain to a new registrar doesn’t have to mean website outages or lost emails. With the right steps, you can transfer your domain smoothly and keep your services online.
1. Unlock Your Domain
Log in to your current registrar and remove the transfer lock. Domains must be unlocked before transfer.
2. Get the EPP Code
The EPP/Auth code is like a password for your domain. Request it from your registrar — you’ll need it to authorise the transfer.
3. Confirm Contact Details
Make sure your registrant email address is up to date. Transfer approval requests are usually sent here.
4. Start the Transfer
At your new registrar, enter your domain name and EPP code. Pay the transfer fee (which usually adds 1 year of registration).
5. Keep DNS Settings the Same
To avoid downtime, leave your DNS and name server settings unchanged during the transfer. After completion, you can update them if needed. Learn more about DNS records.
Next Steps
Once complete, set up auto-renewal to make sure you don’t lose your domain again.
